Baby Sitting course

For young people, babysitting is one of the first opportunities to earn money and to learn job responsibilities.

Today's society has influenced an increasing need for well-trained babysitters. More parents, both women and men, are working outside the home; there are more single parent families; older siblings are often placed in supervision of young children; and there is growing concern for a safe and wholesome environment for children. Parents who hire sitters with Red Cross Babysitting Certification will know that their babysitter has been trained to respond to emergencies.

The Travis AFB station offers classes in babysitting on a regular basis. This nine-hour course trains the babysitting candidate in the essential skills needed to effectively care for children.

The comprehensive training prepares the babysitter to know what to expect when they approach the job:

What questions to ask of the parents; How to conduct themselves regarding the television set, telephone, and snacks; What to do in an emergency; How to diaper infants; How to deal with children of different ages; How to respond to phone calls or visitors; How to maintain control

In addition, BAT covers drug and alcohol awareness, water safety, what to do if lost, child abuse, and bicycle and car safety. BAT condenses a wealth of information into simple yet complete concepts that children can understand and remember.
